We're looking for community-minded people to volunteer as Building Contacts.
Are you living in a rental building in New Westminster? Want to keep your neighbours safe and build a strong community in your building?
If so, the New West Tenants Union is looking for community-minded people to volunteer as Building Contacts.
Building Contacts are the bridges between the Tenants Union and their neighbours. When they hear about issues in their building, they pass them along to the Union who can answer questions and provide support. Similarly, when the Union hears about new laws or changes in the city or province that might impact people’s homes, they pass it along to Building Contacts who can keep their neighbours informed and organised. Building Contacts also receive free training in tenancy law to help them become local experts in their building.
Of course, not everyone knows their neighbours. We help with that too. Whether it’s helping to host small “Meet Your Neighbours” events or starting small projects that add value to the building, you won’t be alone. You’ll also get to meet other building contacts across the city who have experience resolving disputes and improving their buildings.
A strong union is a well connected union. Whether you and your neighbours are facing issues today or you just see the value of a strong community of neighbours who look out for one another, we’d like to work with you.
