Public meeting - Let's talk demoviction protections

Dozens of rental buildings are in New Westminster's transit-oriented development zones.

We're holding our monthly public meeting this Tuesday April 30th at 6:30pm in the basement of the New West Public Library, and we'll be continuing the conversations we've been holding over the last couple of months — transit-oriented development and how to protect tenants from displacement.

We've been busy organizing around the downtown New West area, trying to get a foot in the doors of some of the buildings we are particularly concerned about to get more renters on board and to inform our advocacy work to city council. If you happen to know of anyone living in a small rental building downtown, have them contact us at nwtenantsunion@gmail.com to talk about their situation!

We're getting renters together to talk about the policies council needs to put in place to protect renters from displacement — if renters are evicted, how can city council ensure those tenants can still call New Westminster home?

The agenda on Tuesday:

  • We'll go over our outreach work so far, our strategies for the coming month, and our plan for advocating to city council
  • We'll hold a discussion on what kind of policy we should be pushing for in that advocacy
  • Updates on some of the other work we've been doing this month

As usual, the meeting will be in the basement of the New West Public Library on Tuesday, April 30th at 6:30pm.

See you there!

While we've got you, we're always on the lookout for Building Contacts who can support the New West Tenants Union's work by keeping us posted of issues at rental buildings around the city.
