Rental Report Card 2026 - Results

Hello everyone,

The scores everyone submitted at the grading event last Tuesday have finally been tabulated. Averaging everyone's scores led to the result above.

Please note for context on the grades that the New West Progressive candidates and their mayoral candidate Daniel Fontaine did not reply to our survey with the questions NWTU members voted on back in August. As such, graders could only evaluate based on their voting record and platform on whether they would fight for these issues.

All other candidates submitted answers which graders were able to read and evaluate.

Here's the results split up by individual candidate (instead of grouped by party):

You can also read the full answers each candidate gave to each question in the document below:

For full details on the process, you can visit our main election page here. It includes all the questions, their answers, grades, the rubric graders used, and the whole timeline of the project.

NWTU - 2026 Election Power Project
On August 25th, 2026, members of the New West Tenants Union voted on five questions they wanted everyone running in the 2026 municipal election to answer: 1. Would you hire more staff to enforce rental building maintenance? 2. Would you fight the province to repeal the “Above-Guideline Rent Increase”

What's Next?

Renters make up almost 50% of the population of New Westminster. As a show of renter power, volunteers across the city are distributing these report cards in their rental buildings and communities ahead of the election.

If you'd like to do the same in your building contact us at nwtenantsunion@gmail.com or leave us a voicemail at 778-358-2680 and we can deliver printed report card brochures. Just let us know how many you need.

If you'd like to donate to the union to help cover the printing costs, you can do so here: https://ko-fi.com/nwtenantsunion.

You can also download the brochure yourself here: https://nwtenantsunion.org/content/files/2026/10/Voter-Report-Card---Brochure.pdf.

The image at the top of this post can be shared on social media, but please do NOT share it on Voting Day.

The final voting day is October 17th. See more information on the city webpage.
