Public Meeting, TOD Action, Save the Bus, and more!
Community Action on March 24th at 5:45pm

Hello Everyone,

This month at our public meeting we will be offering a free education and training session on tenant's rights around eviction, and how to talk to your neighbors and community members about their rights. This email includes our public meeting agenda, an opportunity to take action if your home is at risk of redevelopment, information on the Save the Bus campaign, and our resource of the month.

Public Meeting

Our February Public Meeting is scheduled for this Tuesday, March 25th 2025, from 6:30pm to 7:45pm. The meeting is being held in the basement auditorium at the New Westminster Public Library (716 6th Avenue, New Westminster).

The agenda for the meeting is as follows:

  1. Updates on NWTU activities over the last month
  2. Debrief, City Hall Action
  3. Training Activity: Eviction Education

TOD Community Action: City Council Meeting March 24th

Is your building located within a transit oriented development (TOD) zone? Are you worried about where you will go if your building is knocked down to build something taller? This is an opportunity for you to join renters in New West to show City Council you want better renter protections for you and your neighbors. City Council will be going through an early stage of voting around relocation and right of return protections for displaced renters. For more information on TOD, click here.

Join your fellow renters on Monday March 24th 5:45pm at City Hall, in the lobby inside the front doors (facing royal avenue). We know from experience showing up has a big impact. Look forward to seeing you there!

Save the Bus Campaign

The following is a message from Movement, a group advocating for better transit in Metro Vancouver:

Last year, TransLink announced that they are projecting a $600 million deficit in 2026. Their deadline to resolve this situation is the end of March, and an agreement has not been reached to resolve this situation. Transit service hasn't increased since 2020, despite a 13% rise in population. For riders, this means we're already experiencing serious overcrowding.

Without new funding, up to 50% of your bus service will be cut, as well as 30% of rail service.

  • Maple Ridge and Port Coquitlam could lose all bus service
  • West Vancouver and Coquitlam could end up with only one route
  • NightBus and West Coast Express would disappear
  • Click here to find out whether your route's on the chopping block.

You can find out more about the potential cuts at SaveTheBus.ca.
