Public Meeting Oct 28 2025

Hi Everyone,

Happy October! In this newsletter we have a few updates from the last month, and are running a workshop on making one on one conversations with your neighbours less spooky.

October Public Meeting

When: Tuesday, October 28 2025 from 6:30pm to 7:45pm

Where: Basement auditorium at the New Westminster Public Library (716 6th Avenue, New Westminster).

The agenda for the meeting is as follows:

  1. Community Agreement
  2. State of the Union Update
  3. Tenant Toolbox: How to have an effective one on one conversation

Homelessness Action Week

HAW Panel

The NWTU attended Homelessness Action Week on Saturday October 21 2025 along with other community organizations working to prevent homelessness in our community. NWTU volunteer organizer Krisztina spoke on a panel about the need for tenant protections as part of addressing homelessness, moving towards a more robust Residential Tenancy Act with actual enforcement ability for when landlords break the law. She ended with a call to action around organizing in our community, noting our common interest in seeing our neighbours housed, and a need to vote in the upcoming municipal election for candidates who will act in the best interests of tenants.

Door Knocking

We are gearing up to go door knocking in buildings around New West in November. If you are interested in coming along and getting some experience with door knocking you can email us to be added to our volunteer mailing list. No previous experience required, we always pair new volunteers with someone more experienced, and you can shadow for as long as you need to before jumping in.

Get Involved

Want to join our volunteer, renter-led action team to fight for affordable, safe and stable housing for our community? We want to meet with you! Send us an email at nwtenantsunion@gmail.com or leave a voicemail at 778-358-2680.

We are always on the lookout for Building Contacts who can support the New West Tenants Union's work by keeping us posted of issues at rental buildings around the city.

Learn more about Building Contacts and what your role could be in organizing for stronger tenants' rights in your building here.
