Dec 16th Movie Night and Social

Dec 16th Movie Night and Social
Join us for a screening of Saul Alinsky Went to War.

December is here, and to close out 2025 we will be hosting our yearly movie night for our monthly Public Meeting. Our meeting will be a bit earlier in the month than usual, before folks get busy for the holidays. We will be watching Saul Alinsky Went to War, a 57min documentary about the the community organizing done by American activist Saul Alinsky.

In this feature documentary, American community organizer and writer Saul Alinsky goes to war against the conditions that keep the poor in poverty. The film shows how he helped Black tenants in the United States find an effective, non-violent method of fighting for their rights.

The screening will be on Tuesday, December 16th at 6:30pm in the Basement Auditorium of the New Westminster Public Library (716 6th Ave).

Free drinks and snacks will also be available to enjoy.

In case you can't make it, the documentary is available for free on YouTube:

November's Public Meeting - ARI-C Strategy Planning

Last month, we hosted an emergency strategy planning meeting to address several above guideline rent increases that were impacting tenants across New Westminster. Affected tenants, community organizers, and concerned renters joined together to learn more about these rent increases, connect with their neighbours, and start planning their next steps for how to fight these unfair increases. Tenants did a great job showing up and starting the process of getting organized.

Volunteer Opportunities

We are a entirely volunteer organization, and with an increase in buildings contacting us across New West comes an increased need for volunteers. If you are interested in door knocking, phone banking, distributing education materials, postering, or meeting with tenants in the community, we have opportunities for you. We provide training and support so you will not be doing things on your own. To get started, send us an email at nwtenantsunion@gmail.com or leave a voicemail at 778-358-2680.

Become a Building Contact

We are always on the lookout for Building Contacts who can support the New West Tenants Union's work by keeping us posted of issues at rental buildings around the city.
