Hi Everyone,
Happy New Year! Our public meeting this month is focused on connecting our volunteers together and creating more opportunities for people to contribute to the NWTU in ways that use their strengths and work with their schedule. If you'd like to be part of shaping our volunteer strategy for the year, or would just like to meet people in your community and learn about how to get more involved, read on for the meeting information!
January Public Meeting
When: Tuesday, January 27th 2026 from 6:30pm to 7:45pm
Where: Basement auditorium at the New Westminster Public Library (716 6th Avenue, New Westminster).
The agenda for the meeting is as follows:
- State of the Union Update
- Neighbour Meet and Greet
- Discussion: Creating a space for NWTU volunteers to connect
Rent Fact: Interest on Security Deposits
Are you moving this year? Don't forget that your landlord owes you interest on your security and pet deposits. There will not be interest owed over 2026, but they owed 1.95% in 2023, 2.7% in 2024, and 0.95% in 2025, and interest is calculated over all of the years they had the deposit, not just the current year.
Get Involved
Can't make the meeting? Want to join our volunteer, renter-led action team to fight for affordable, safe and stable housing for our community? We want to meet with you! Send us an email at nwtenantsunion@gmail.com or leave a voicemail at 778-358-2680.
We are always on the lookout for Building Contacts who can support the New West Tenants Union's work by keeping us posted of issues at rental buildings around the city.
