Housing Survey for Black Communities

Our friends at the Hogan's Alley Society have asked us to help distribute the Housing Solutions Lab Survey to our contacts here in New Westminster.  This survey aims to provide a deeper understanding of the discrimination and barriers Black communities face in Metro Vancouver in accessing equitable housing. Please share!

On February 15th, NWTU members attended an excellent panel discussion at Douglas College entitled "From Displacement to Housing Justice: A conversation on Black housing precarity in Metro Vancouver".  This event was organized for Black history month by the BC Poverty Reduction Coalition  and was part of the "Changing the Conversation" project at Douglas College headed by Prof Elliot Rossiter.  As tenant organizers, we've seen first hand the level of harassment and intimidation that landlords can impose on tenants.  However the testimonials from the panel and audience members of blatant racial discrimination here in New West was both shocking and enraging.  We hope that this can be a small start to fighting against anti-Black racism and other forms of racial discrimination from Landlords here in New West and look forward to working more with community members to expose it.
